Complete Step by Step Process to Renew Indian Passport in USA

If you’re an Indian living in the United States and you wish to renew your Indian Passport, then this is simplest way to do so.

Visit https://passport.in.ckgs.us to apply and hence renew your Indian passport.

Here’s a step by step process to guipde you through the application:

Step 1

• The website will look like this. Click on ‘Passport Application – Get Started’ to begin your VISA application process

Step 2

• Once you click the option you will be redirected to a page that looks like the image below. Click “Passport Application – Get started button” or if you’re in a hurry to get your passport then click “Passport Service - Tatkal/Rush”

• You’ll be redirected to page that looks like this
• Select the Type of 'application as Normal' if you want a 'normal application' or select 'Tatkal' if you want an emergency renewal
• Then choose the State where you live in the United States
• The next box will be auto generated. You’ll have to submit your application through mail to that address
• Next choose if the applicant is an “Adult”, “Minor” (15 to 18 years of age) or “Minor” (below 15 years of age). Note: Choose the appropriate option as there are two kinds of Minors. Read the options available and choose correctly
• Next enter your marital status and click no if you haven’t applied for Asylum

• Next, you’ll have to choose your booklet type. The Ordinary Booklet consists of 35 pages, and the Jumbo Booklet consists of 60 pages. Choose the one that suits your need
• Next, choose the reason you’re applying for the renewal of your passport. Click “Passport pages exhausted” if the all the pages in your passport have been used. Else, click “Passport already expired” if your passport has expired prior the renewal application. Click “Passport going to Expire” if your passport is going to expire soon
• If your passport renewal reason is not from one of the given here, you can select “None of the above”

Step 5

• Next, you will have to enter the Applicant’s details. You have to be extremely careful while you enter this data and must double check it before you submit it
• Enter your First, middle and last name correctly. If you do not have a middle name then leave the box blank
• Enter your gender, place of birth, date of birth, your current Indian passport number, its issue and expiry date along with the place of issue
• If you have a proof of legal status in USA then click “Yes” , if you don’t have it click “No” , if the approval is pending then click “Pending approval at USCIS” Choose “Yes” or “No” accordingly for the rest of the questions

Step 6

• After double checking the applicant’s details and submitting it you will be redirected to a page that looks like this
• “How will you submit your application?” has two options - “Walk in” or “Shipping”
• If you need Text alerts then click “Yes” otherwise click “No”. If you click “Yes” they will charge you extra
• Select the mode of payment and the type of the instrument
• Enter your mobile number and email address and click proceed

Step 7

• You’ll be redirected to a page that summarises all the information you’ve entered. Check and click “I confirm”. If you want to edit some information then click “Edit”

Step 8

• After you click “I confirm”, you will be given a reference number and you can find it on the right corner of the page
• You can see and refer to the document checklist along with the photo details, because you will have to send the documents to the CKGS centre in that order
• Note: The photo must be proper and has to be taken in an appropriate background, i.e, The photo must be a passport size photo
• You will also be able to see the amount that you will have to pay
• Click “Continue”

Step 9

• Next, fill your details like occupation, visible unique marks (like a mole, scar or any other appropriate mark), date of leaving India, present address in USA, period of stay and the place of issue of your current passport
• If you have any alias click “Yes” otherwise click “No”

Step 10

• Then, enter your family details like father’s name, mother’s name if you chose to add your spouse’s name then you will see an option for you to enter your spouse’s name

• Next, enter your present address in USA as well as the date from which you’ve been living there
• Then click “Submit”

• Enter your friend’s or any relative’s details who live in near your residence in India

Step 13

• Next, check on the box “I confirm that all the information about is correct” and then click on I confirm

Step 14

• You will be redirected to a page where you will have to verify the details you’ve entered. After you verify, click “Proceed”

• If you had chosen “Change in appearance” or “Change in signature” you will have to submit an affidavit. Enter the details correctly and then click “Submit”

Step 16

• Next, you will have to fill out the Annexure E form. Select the appropriate options and hence click “Submit” and proceed

• If you had chosen the “Shipping” option to submit your application to the CKGS, then you will be redirected to this page
• Enter your zip code and residential address in the appropriate boxes. After you enter the details you will be able to see the final cost. Then click “I agree to the terms” and hence click “Submit”

• Next, you will be asked to choose the payment option. If you wish to pay online you can choose that option or you can choose any other option that you’re comfortable with
• If you wish to pay online, then choose the mode of payment that is card or banker check. Enter the proper details and click “Submit”

Step 19

• After payment, you will be redirected to the Indian NRI passport site. Enter your basic information, double check it and click “Save and Continue”

Step 20

• Next, upload your image if you want to upload then “click save and continue”

Step 21

• Next, click “Generate PDF” and download it
• After downloading the PDF, print it and add your signature in the required field and fill the necessary information by your hand

Step 22

• Pack the PDF form along with documents according to your document checklist like your old passport and other necessary documents and send it to the CKGS office
